Silica gel is a type of desiccant that is used to protect against moisture-related damage by lowering humidity and preventing the formation of mould, mildew and rust. Silica gel's extremely high surface area allows it to adsorb up to 40% of its weight in moisture. It is inert, non-hazardous and has the ability to be regenerated multiple times.

Silica gel will remove moisture at temperatures as high as 60°C, but it is best used at room temperature (20‐35°C) and high relative humidity (60‐90% RH).

Orange indicating silica gel is ideal in applications where visual control of moisture is required. The silica gel will turn from orange to green as it adsorbs moisture, indicating the need for reactivation or replacement.

• Beads contain orange to green moisture indicator
• Inert and non-hazardous
• Non-corrosive
• Lowers relative humidity to approximately 35-40%
• Remains dry when saturated with moisture
• Reusable

• Transformer breathers
• Electrical boxes
• Double-glazed windows
• Mining industry
• Aerospace
• Laboratories

Reactivation Instructions

When silica gel turns green, reactivate as follows:

Spread silica gel on a tray and place in an oven at 115°C to 125°C for approximately 2-3 hours or until beads turn orange again. Once the silica gel has been reactivated, remove from oven and let cool until able to handle. Store silica gel in a sealed container until ready to use.
